The main difference between the two types of systems has to do with the materials used to create the cutting plasma. Consumer plasma systems use air, which has a significant amount of nitrogen in it, to create the cuts. The result is that the edges of the cuts are blackened. Commercial systems like the one we use can use other gases to create the plasma. We choose the gas or combination of gases based on the substance we are cutting and its thickness. As a result, we can minimize or eliminate burning, which results in a smoother and shinier finish.
